Wearing vintage is more than fashion

Wearing vintage is more than fashion

Every year, more celebrities dare to wear dresses from past seasons and even decades to the most glamorous events instead of choosing pieces from the new collections. With this small act of rebellion towards current trends, the stars that go for this alternative not only show their sensibility and respect towards vintage fashion, but they also position themselves in favour of a more sustainable fashion industry in the most significant occasions.

That's why, at Some Things Never Fade, we feel it's so important that such relevant and influential women give vintage fashion so much visibility, as it's independent to the current trends and it's proof that garments that are well made stand the test of time.

Celebrities wearing vintage gowns to important events is nothing new, Julia Roberts picked up her Oscar in 2001 wearing a vintage Valentino gown, but it's now becoming more common. We have recently seen Lily Rose Depp and Bella Hadid, big defendants of vintage fashion for every day, wearing vintage pieces like the vintage Chanel Lily Rose wore at the 2019 Met Gala and the vintage Gaultier Bella wore at Cannes Film Festival in 2021.

But not only new generations are choosing vintage for their big events, Jennifer Aniston looked stunning wearing John Galliano for Dior at the SAG Awards in 2020 and, in 2012, Natalie Portman chose a 1954 design from Dior, the brand she was image of at the time.

More recently, we have seen the most amazing vintage looks in the current awards season. Zendaya has been going for vintage pieces for years, but she's shining bright in 2023 thanks to the 2002 vintage Versace she wore to the NAACP Image Awards.

But maybe, te most significant step has been at the 95th Academy Awards, for which guests received Sustainable Style Guide from RCGD Global in which they were being encouraged to wear more sustainable outfits by choosing natural fabrics, renting, reusing (as Cate Blanchett has been claiming for years) or vintage. From the (not so) red carpet of the 2023 Oscars Awards Ceremony we would like to mention Rooney Mara who wore a beautiful Alexander McQueen from the iconic 2008 collection and Vanessa Hudgens who chose an elegant vintage Chanel.

Seeing influential women such as actresses, businesswomen or models wearing archive pieces, it is becoming more and more common that all women go for these timeless styles full of personality that prove that fashion and sustainability can also go hand in hand. If they decide to show their unique style standing out from the rest in vintage pieces, why wouldn't you?
